Question:

Stop duffing with driver?

On a good, smooth swing, my driver goes around 230-300(depending on conditions)

however, sometimes if i try to trash my driver, I hit the turf with it and duff it about 50 yards.(lol) What is the fault in my swing causing this?

  1. Swinging to quick and raising your head to early i bet. Concentrate on timing rather than trying to knock it into next week!

  2. This is exactly why the harder you try to hit the ball, the worse the outcome of the shot.  When you try to 'trash' it, your muscles tense up, some exert more force than normal and as a result, your swing-plane is off on the downswing.  Most likely you are subconsciously using a lot of your right arm.  If you must swing hard, keep a swing thought in your head during the downswing: Level flight-path of the club head as you approach the bottom of your downswing.  Thinking about 'killing' the ball will only cause you to hit DOWN instead of forward.

  3. Timeing,,,,,,,,if you practiced at full speed and them some you might get the timring of swinging fast and hit it a mile all the time #1 most im portant thing when trying to kill it is MAKE FULL CLEAN CONTACT and booya its str8 and a mile long

  4. The 'trashing' probably results from a rushed transition from backswing to downswing. If this is the case I would recommend implementing a pause at the top of the backswing to allow the lower body to adjust to the right position before releasing power.

    Another way of achieving more consistency is by retaining the angle of your back throughout the swing. Feel as if you head is staying at the same height throughout the swing.

    A third solution comes from the mental aspects of the game. By changing the way you breathe, you can lower the centre of gravity in your body and hence create stability. This is achieved by taking a 'full breath'. This means inhaling and feeling the breath moving down the back of your throat and into your back, moving down the tailbone. This widens your shoulders and the back of your rib cage.

  5. Overswinging normally will cause you to make to rapid a transition to the down swing...... Thus your swing plane alters. As you have already said a smooth swing gets you all the distance you need...why trash any swing that works?

  6. So let me just get this straight, you have admitted that when you swing good and smooth you can hit the ball really well, you then admit that when you try and thrash it you hit the ball badly.

    You then ask why when you thrash rather than swing smooth you hit the ball poorly.

    ARE YOU GOD d**n SERIOUS DUDE!!!

    Let me spell it out for you. Ok!!

    SWING = SMOOTH + CONTROLLED = GOOD

    SWING  = FAST + NOT CONTROLLED = BAD
