Stop giving money to other countries?

Look at America. There are children going to school in clothes that are 3 sizes to small, homeless adults, kids, even babies. I seen a pregnant women sleeping at a park here in Seattle.

I though Charity is to start at home

Why do people give to other countries instead of working on our country to make it a better place to live in?

  1. America is not selfish, dont ask me why but many people prefer to fight mass famine, than try to help homeless people that EVERY city has, and they don't want help. Personally, I agree with you, which is why I don't donate to overseas projects. The gov't wastes enough money trying to teach people how to grow corn in sand. Only to have the money we sent to them stolen by the people who want them to die.

  2. I am American and I far prefer to donate abroad.

The reason is that I have lived in many developing countries, and know first hand how lucky Americans are to live in the U.S.

Americans have access to all kinds of services and opportunities that people in other parts of the world can only dream about, among them:

    Free public education

    Free public libraries

    Free parks

    Paved roads

Welfare, Unemployment Benefits and Social Security

Easy access to water that is safe to drink

  3. Who are you to decide where my community is? If you only want to give in your own neighborhood, fine. But I'm from a larger community, and where my charity is focused should be of no concern to you.

When people give to the arts, other people complain that the money should go to hungry people. When people give to animals or the environment, other people complain that the money should go to causes focused on people. And when people give to causes outside their country, people say the money should stay local. I say deal with your own charity and stop judging others -- it's not yours to determine where my heart leads me.
