  1. You have to make up your own mind on this but the way I see it if we stopped doing everything that was even remotely dangerous then it'd be a pretty boring life.

People can manage to get hurt getting out of bed - do we stop doing that too ?

  2. if u run away from everything that dangerous what wud u live in..... dont stop cuz its dangerous.... ive been riding since i was born.. and fallen ever since.... it makes u a better rider.... I taught a walk trot girl whos horses fell ontop of her... for accidental reasons with another horses... 8 month later she got back on the same horse..... u do it for the love of it...and every equestrian knows the risk before they get on but it dosnt stop them.....

  3. If you don't take risks in life, is there even a reason to keep living???? Danger and adventure is a part of life, without it, life would be dull. Listen to your heart and you'll know what the answer is. No one can make this decision for you, and it could be life altering. Listen to your heart and I know you'll make the decision that's right for you.

  4. Well we can't anwser that, you have to make the choice. if you really loved this sport you would be careful and would make youreself stronger so that it would be harder for a horse to get you off then you wouldn't fall off as much. i have also fallen off alot but  didn't quite.

  5. Just make sure you wear the necessary equipment and you will be fine. You don't say which style you ride but get a body protector. Horse riding is dangerous but so is any sport. I rode for 6 years until I went to college and had to put it on hold and the worst injury I got was a sprained ankle and I fell off dozens of times. If you are sensible and ride within your limits with the right gear you shouldn't have a problem.

  6. dont stop!! Ever! If you really love it dont let your mom stop you! My best friends mom hates horses, but my bff still rides and has 2 horses.

Ive fallen off and i was told that if i had moved before the ambulance had gotten me, i would have been paralyzed!! But im still riding... the first time i fell off i had to go to the emergency room and i was crying because i had to miss my lesson... lolz

just think, everything is dangerous. Walking outside is, driving in a car is.... riding your bike is just as dangerous as horseback riding..

Please dont give up on horses!!!!

  7. just to tell you, you are more likely to get hurt playing a contact sport than you are horseback riding. plus you learn how to prevent yourself from getting into those dangerous situations. if you love it keep going, don't let anyone stop you from doing what you love!

  8. i dont think you shoulr, i got a bad cucusion and almost broke my back riding horses but it is what i love so that is why i still ride!! just do what you want

  9. depending on what you do, it's not that dangerous.

always wear a helmet and make sure that you're in a safe setting at all times, like an arena with no rocks or anything.

and never wear open toed shoes around the horses.

also, be sure that the horse you're riding is appropriate for your experience level.

falling can be dangerous, but if you're safe and take the right precautions, horses aren't that dangerous to be around.

sure falling hurts most of the time, and it happens ALOT, but i've never had anything horrible happen to me from falling. except maybe a few scratches. and i've fallen alot!

  10. if you loved riding so much , you wouldnt be thinking about stoping it . :(

  11. its up to you if you loved it truly then you couldnt even imagine going a week without it so idk...we all fall, i jammed my spine once but i got over it and knew that the benefits of riding out weight the occasional fall...you will get hurt in every day life about as much as u will falling off a horse.but all in all this is a decision u have to make on ur own.

  12. talk to your mom, find out what's behind her feelings on you riding or not riding.  make sure you tell her about your love for riding.  list your pros and cons.

make sure you tell her how being with horses will also help keep you away from things like drugs, boys...lol.  it worked on my mom, when i was a teen.  the lesser of the 2 evils.

    best of luck.

  13. I'm in my late 50's.  I've been riding all my life and had a few spills.  But last week for no good reason that any of my buddies can figure, my guy took off at a dead run down a steep hill!  I actually had "The Man From Snowy River"  experience.  I stuck with him until close to the bottom when he swerved and off I went.  Luckily, I got up after a brief rest, he came back and we headed home, and yes I rode!  I've been thinking the same thing but after replaying the situation in my mind, I decided to keep riding him.  We've been out twice since but I did move him up to another bit, he's eight and is ready for it.  He's got one more chance.  If he pulls anything like that again, he'll be finding a new home.  But I will be finding another horse!  I'm going to ride until I'm not able to get in the saddle!  It's my way to cleanse my mind and soul of all my problems and concerns, and fills me up to face another day.  Never give in to fear, or you might as well stop living.

  14. I've also fallen off many a time, but i still get back on.

If you love it u shouldn't stop. If u have a trainer. have ur mom come with u of course wear ur helmet  have the trainer reassure  her and ur self. Keep doing what u love

  15. Ask your mum what she did when she was your age. Life is dangerous and you can't stop that. Driving is dangerous, walking across the road is dangerous, using the oven is dangerous!!!!!!

Keep on riding. I have fallen off sooooooooo many times!! As long as you get back on you should be ok!!

    Good Luck

  16. You should keep riding. You are safer on a horse than in a car. Also make sure you wear your helmet for protection. i dont know if you ride Western or English. But anyways- a good helmet is a good idea.

Riding can be dangerous- but the horse doesnt want to get hurt either! They have horse sense. I have fallen many times- sometimes i got sprains, but you must protect the head above all else.

  17. I can't answer that one...only you can.   Your age determines how much influence your mom has over you.  If she says, "No", then no it is.  I havent' found horsebackriding to be particularly "dangerous" but I wasn't foolish and taking unnessary risks either.

Be sure that you ride a well broke horse and that you are a "thinking" rider and not taking unnessary risks....and continue to develop your riding skills.

There are risks in life in general but the key is to weigh the risk versus your own riding capabilities...if you're not "overhorsed" your odds of being badly injured are less than if you rode a green broke horse which you can pretty well bet will shy and/or bolt from new experiences.

  18. well, i think anything is dangerous when you think about it! there was a kid that died playing basketball for gods sake! whats life without risks? i love riding too, and thing it would be awful to give it up. my mom almost died in a riding accident, but she lets me do it. im more cautious than other people, but i love every second! dont give it up!

  19. Ive been riding horses since i was 2 or 3 years old. The reason for things being dangerous is you have gotten to confortable around the horse and u kinda loose that repect that he could servrely hurt or kill you. I dont think you should stop riding but when you are around horses keep in mind you have to repect him, keep in mind daner zones, spook area, things that spook horse, keep your head on straight and keep in mind horses and fun but dangerous. If you remember that you will b just fine. PLUS YOU CAN TEACH YOUR DOG TO RUN ALONG WITH THE HORSE WHILE YOU ARE RIDING AND HAVE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

  20. I honestly think you should get back on. I have fallen off, broken my wrist, gotten purple toes, etc.

Everything you do in this world is dangerous. You just have to take chances if you really enjoy doing something. I think riding horses is a great thing and if you enjoy it, you should keep at it. Unless if you feel uncomfortable about it or something, then you just need to trust yourself again. I suggest maybe doing some ground work with your horse to build some trust:

    Ex.

    -Lunging

    -Turns on hindquarters and forehand

    -Sidepassing

Just do some of that stuff to get to know your horse a little better. Then when you start to ride again, just walk and do some of the stuff above in the saddle to get the feel of the horse.

Also, you should lunge the horse a little every day before you get on if you want to be extra safe. ;) Thats what I do sometimes. Or, you might consider getting a bombproof easy horse to start on.

    Good luck!

  21. You'll never live a fulfilling life if you don't take risks.  Don't regret desicions you've made later on in life just because pressure and fear kept you from doing the things you love.  If I had the opportunity to ride I would, no matter how many times I'd been hurt.  It's your life.  Live in the moment.

  22. My best advice is that you honor and obey your mother. I understand that you love horses. I do as well. But you said that you have "fallen off many times" and so I can also understand your mother's misgivings and fear for your safety. Her wisdom tells her that eventually the law of odds catches up with a person who is accident prone and I suppose that is why she is fearful for your safety.

  23. olny you can anwser that

  24. I have been riding for over a year and i have never fallen off not even when I was learning to canter so for me i dont find it dangerous

i know it can be but i dont really care i love it. Gymnastics is dangerous people have died from it too but people still do it (I have done it since I was 5)

But if you think about if people didnt do stuff because it was dangerous then there wouldnt be much left to do there is a possability that you can get hurt no matter what you are doing

I wouldnt stop riding because it is dangerous. If you are younger then you will have to listen to what your mom tells you to do but if you are about 15 and up then you are old enought to where you can choose for your self hope all this helps

  25. Every sport is dangerous and has it's risks. If you really love it, explain that to her. There are also ways to be extra safe. Wear a helmet, and if you want, a back protector. Ride 'bomb proof' horses. But ultimately it is your decision

  26. if its what you love go for it.

if your momma does not let you once you move out

    you can continue

    :]

  27. if you want to continue, continue.

Life itself is dangerous....driving is dangerous...using electricity is dangerous

  28. everything in life is dangerous. horseback riding is less dangerous than driving in a car. keep riding, you don't want to miss out ;)

  29. Your mom doesn't want you riding because it is dangerous.  I find that is a lot of people's cases, and it's silly to say something like that.  I agree it is up to you if you want to quit not your mom's.  You can't hide from danger, it's everywhere.  If your mom thinks riding is dangerous, I wouldn't recommend driving a car, turning on the lights, eating food, or getting out of bed to her.  Riding is dangerous, but it's fine to keep riding.  Every sport has risks (riding is by far the riskiest in my eyes), you don't have a good reason for me to tell you to quit.  I would keep riding, but once again, it is all up to you...

  30. With horses it's not a matter of IF you'll get hurt, but WHEN and how bad.  I had to have back surgery two years ago and all my doctors have told me I need to quit riding, but it's the only thing I really live for.  I don't care how much pain I'm in, if I can't be with my horses I might as well be dead.

  31. you've been riding for so long and like  you said you love it! I think you should definetly keep riding. Horses bring so much joy to our lives and I think that you just need to tell your mom that this is something you really want to do.
