My parents have gone away without my and my brother for the first time today, their only away for two nights but i'm really worried about being on my own without them. I didn't tell them because i didn't want to ruin their holiday. I'm 14 and my brothers 17. Anything i can do to stop me worrying?

  1. Have a checklist to calm yourself. Lock the doors and windows, leave a couple of lights on, take in the mail and don't let strangers know you're alone in the house.

  2. Buy a gun and sleep with it under your pillow. That's what I do and it keeps me feeling safe. Except that one time...

    I'm sure it's fine.

  3. Its ok! Just relax...Take deep breathes! Until u relax and just forget about them leaving by..

-Calling, txting, or chatting online with ur friends! Friends are always there when ur scared! They help get through every minute of ur life when ur talking to them!

-Maybe u can call ur parents if really scared and can invite a few friends or any relatives over for the days that they r gone! Then u don't have to worry being alone! or u can do the oppsite around going to their house!

The main thing is...just don't think about it and relax and maybe call them 2 times a day to see how they are doing and i bet u'll do fine!

  4. i'm sure everything will be fine. if you need to sleep with the lights on. i use to do that when my parents left me alone. just stay busy, it will keep your mind off of things.

  5. When my parents did that with me and my brother I just focused on doing things normally and trying not to stress. Just concentrate on little things. Like think about the next time the dog needs to go out, or what your having for lunch and when you're making it.

  6. Just relax.  Try to hang close with your brother.  If he doesn't want you around, have a friend come over and hang out with you so you're not alone.

I'm 30 years old and I still don't like being home alone.  I usually rent myself a good movie (usually a comedy...NOTHING SCARY) and make some popcorn and make sure there are lights on in the house.  When I go to bed I always leave a light on in another room or use a dim night light in the bathroom, and I always fall asleep with the tv on (I put it on an automatic timer to shut off).

There is nothing to be scared of.....it's just our imaginations getting the best of us.  If you still can't handle being alone, go to a friends house during the time your parents are away, and when they get home explain to them that you don't feel comfortable being alone yet.  They will understand.

  7. Relax...it's just 2 nights... besides, lots of kids your age would be HAPPY about the independence. Play videogames....before you know it time has passed.
