Question:

Stop sign on road tests?

When I get to a stop sign on my road test, should I stop right before the stop sign or pull up to the white line a foot ahead of it? My driving instructor said legally it's acceptable to pull up to the white line, but it may or may not be the best thing to do on the road test. For those who have passed their road test, what should I do?

  1. you should stop BEFORE the white line. it is safer for everyone, especially for the pedestrians who do the walking on that white line.

as long as it's before the line, even if it is a foot or two, it's fine. just be sure to think of the pedestrians first! :)

    best of luck to you!!!!!

  2. Stop right before you get to the stop sign or crosswalk and MAKE SURE you come to a full stop and not what they call a 'rolling stop' (which is where you stop for a brief stop and keep going).

You should ALWAYS pretend that there is someone on the corner waiting to cross the street in the crosswalk in front of you and come to a full and complete stop at a stop sign because people, especially kids, have a way of running across out of nowhere to catch a bus near a mall or be in a hurry to get home from school, and they don't always watch for you, so you have to be alert and watch for them.

Good Luck with your driving test and let me know how it goes, ok?
