Stop spending money?

what would happen to the U.S is a majority of americans just stop spending..dont buy the newest gagget or spen 60$ at the movies..or dont put another dime on the already maxed out credit card.

It would never happen,and it would drive the economy into a bigger recession. Americans have already greatly stopped their spending, the problem is their is too much money in the system, the other problem is that corporations are the ones with all the money, and they are holding onto it rather than stimulating the economy by giving out loans, creating new jobs, which is really what the injections from the fed were for,only thing is they dont follow through to see where the money is going. Corporate abuse is the root of all our problems, not too much spending.

If the majority of Americans just stopped spending it would destroy our economy. Consumerism is what helped make this country rich. This country thrives on consumerism. People say we're in a recession or an economic slow down (which is true) but you can go to any major mall on the weekend in any major American city, and it will still be packed with people, the parking lot almost full. If people stopped doing that, it would damage the economy for a long time.

Believe it or not the middle class has a lot to do with driving the economy in this country. The markets are going to have a hard time if things somehow don't level out. It's time the markets include fuel and food ..ie commodities into the CPI.

It would not only destroy our economy but it would also take out China's.  That's what I always say when I buy something at Walmart--I'm single handedly supporting a small Chinese village by this purchase of a ten cent trinket.  

That is why Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year.  It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with commercialism.  So many companies and businesses actually depend totally on the Christmas sales to bolster their entire year's financial state.  That is SOOOO wrong.  So if Americans stopped spending and we stopped celebrating Christmas the world's financial institutions would collapse in a very short order.
