I'm in my late 20's, I'm 5'5 and I'm 141 - is that over weight?

Also, I've recently gained 10lbs in a year. I don't have a lot of time during the day to work out. All I have time for is walking in my neighborhood for about 30 min a couple times a week - which I try hard to do. But I'm trying to ways to change my daily routine so that I can get more exercise in. My job has me at my desk sitting most of the day and I don't work in an area that's safe to go out for walks.

I try to watch what I eat and make healthier choices, but when out with friends or eating late, it isn't that easy. I'd love to lose these ten pounds. I stop eating when I'm full, but it seems that I think about food ALL DAY! I drink a Coke Zero (one) about every other day. How can I stop thinking about food so much or suppress my diet so that when I do eat, it isn't as much?

Also, where I work - they eat like KINGS for lunch! We have a full kitchen here at work (there's 6 of us that work here) and they usually cook or grill out for lunch. It's so hard to turn them down when they are cooking . 99% of what they make is NOT health food. It's hard to watch them eat the meals they make and I have my tiny frozen diet food.

How can I suppress my appetite?

  1. Obviously you could use supplements but I doubt many people would recommend that.

It's really just about mind over matter.  Is eating that greasy hamburger at lunch time more important, or is losing that 10 pounds more important?

You just need to commit yourself.  When you do eat, try eating food high in fiber and protein, these will help you feel more full.

Everytime you're feeling hungry for greasy food or people are eating pizza at midnight around you...remind yourself how good you'll feel in a couple of months once you've lost that 10 pounds.

And, once the weights off and you're comfortable again, it's not like you can't EVER eat a burger...just not one everyday.

    Good luck

  2. If they're cooking food - you shouldn't have to eat diet food..

Just don't take a full meals worth - taking a smaller portion is fine isn't it?

    everything in moderation!

  3. I wouldn't try suppressing it, I would find good snacks to eat.  Your body wants 6 small meals a day, not 2 or 3 meals.

First, eat a good breakfast to start the day.  Make this well rounded, some egg, meat (turkey bacon, turkey sausage), oatmeal, granola cereal, dry toast, fruit.  Pick a few things to make a nice breakfast.  This should really be your biggest meal of the day.  Most people have their diets reversed and eat nothing early and too much late in the day.

Have a 10:00 snack of fruit, wheat crackers, granola bar, etc.

    Eat a light lunch

    Have a snack around 4:00

Eat dinner around 6 or whatever your schedule is

Don't eat again after dinner.  Late night food/snacks are the not good.

This is much better than trying to starve yourself.  The hardest part for most people is planning their meals.  The majority of people don't know what they are eating tomorrow for each or any meal.  This leads to eating fast food or junk food.  Be disciplined and plan your meals.

  4. everytime your hungry have a drink. it can be water or cordial. but nothing fizzy or really sweet. drinking a large glass will help to supress your apetite and will also boost your metabolism to help your digetst your food quicker.

    good luck!
