Question:

Stopover hotels in Dijon, Avignon + Reims...?

We need ones which will accept 2 travel cots in the room (some French hotels seem to only allow 1 in a double room), and which is in the centre of each of these towns. We don't want to spend more than about £60 a night in each (in October), but it needs to be clean and decent. We also need parking. If anyone can help with any of these, answers would be appreciated!

  1. For stopover hotels in France we always use the Ibis chain which are rather like Travelodge hotels in UK. I have an up-to-date brochure showing that there are  2 Ibises in central Dijon costing from (Dijon Central) 68 to 85 euros/night weekdays and 58 to 85 euros at weekends.(Public parking) Ibis Clemenceau costs a little more.(Garage parking with charge) The Ibis Centre Gare at Avignon is 64 - 96 midweek and 49 - 96 weekends.(Garage parking with charge) Ibis Centre Pont de L'Europe (which we've used) costs  62 - 85 midweek and 49 - 85 at weekends.(Public parking - across the road - Free.) Reims Centre charge 71 - 73 midweek and the same for weekends. Public parking with charge.)

If you fancy using the Ibis chain try their website at www.ibishotel.com You can see photo's of the hotels and make bookings for as many hotels as you wish. They take your credit card details but only charge you if you actually turn up. You can cancel, without charge, up to 7.00pm. Each hotel has a restaurant with good choices of menu and the "all you can eat breakfast" costs 8 euros (about £6.50) We have used them all over France, this year at Avranches and they have a number of Ibis hotels in UK. The one disadvantage of Ibis is that if you do not stay at a town centre one you are likely to find that the hotel is on a trading estate next to a furniture warehouse. Naturally, town/city centre ones are more expensive.

  2. I live in Reims; here is the link to the Tourist Office:

I would recommend the Hotel de la Paix which is a 3*, in the very center of the town. They have a private underground car park.

October is a very busy season here with many conventions, etc, so make sure you book in advance...

    Enjoy the Champagne!

  3. This is the best site for cheap prices.  Read reviews to see if you can get what you need:

Your requirements are a bit specific so your best bet is to do the digging and searching yourself once you find some hotels you may want to stay in.

  4. The only hotels which can be found almost anywhere in France but which are not in Town center...are the Hotel Chain: "Formule 1", it belongs to the Accor Hotel Group (owner of Novotel, Ibis...). and Express by Holiday Inn.

Each room can accommodate 4 people.

    For Holiday Inn Express:

    For Formule 1 hotel:

In Reims, to be specific, there is hotel Tambour who allows 4 people in a room and rate is only €104 if you book here:

  5. Use a website like www.booking.com or www.venere.com

You find hotels by location, they have all the hotel details, including parking, and reveiws by guests who have recently stayed there. We have used these sites every where we go, and have always enjoyed our stay.

For budget hotels look at www.hotelformule1.com

    Have fun.
