Question:

Stopping and getting tangled after about 4 inches

Darn, this is driving me crazy! I have my grandma's Singer 401A which usually runs great, but lately I can't go 4 inches without it getting all jumbled in the bottom. The top thread will jump, and then I know I have a knot of thread underneath and the thread gets stuck. I have tried, new needle, checking tension, etc. What else can I do?
