Stopping in Zurich for a day - is there a locker for my luggage?

I might be stopping in Zurich for 7 or 8 hours and don't want to haul around luggage. Are there lockers that hold medium sized luggage? Also, is the Zurich central station in the middle of the city or do I need to take a train somewhere?

yes    in europe every trainstation has lockers

plus all trainstations are in the center of the city

lockers at the Zurich Hauptbahnhof come in all sorts of sizes (small to large), and if you have oversized luggage, you can also store it with the baggage office (fee is higher).  lockers are automated and take coins.  Zurich HB is in the middle of the city, and right at the beginning of the Bahnhofstrasse/Altstadt, so it's ideal as the starting point for sightseeing.
