i am trying to download something, but other people are trying to download the same thing, and it is taking away frome my kb/min. i was wondering is there any way to block uploads? i always move the files whenever they are finished to prevent this, but is there a way to do it with the "downloading" file? this is taking way too long, and i don't want to keep killing uploads for the rest of the night!

  1. "In computing and specifically on the Internet, being a leech or leecher refers to the practice of benefiting, usually deliberately, from others' information or effort but not offering anything in return, or only token offerings in an attempt to avoid being called a leech. In economics this type of behavior is called "Free riding" and is associated with the Free rider problem."

    - Wikipedia

"Leecher can be applied practially to peer to peer file sharing protocols, or networks (Bittorrent, Kazza Fast Track, Gnutella}, in which the leecher consumes bandwidth by downloading, yet has no will to upload or give back to a community."

    - Urban Dictionary

    Follow up:

If you have a good connection uploading won't affect your downloading so much. Maybe your peers are slow or you aren't uploading enough for them to give you priority. In any case, you can limit your upload bandwidth by going to "Tools" < "Options" < "Upload" and sliding the slider below "Unlimited." You can also limit the ammount of people that connect to you by going into the "Slots" sub-category. Just keep the above definitions in mind and know that limiting upload may also cause you to lose some peers or bump you down.

My apology for my blunt assumption.

  2. isn't there an option on limewire where you can prevent uploads?

  3. There's an option to do this, but I haven't use limewire in years, so I can't describe how.

It lowers your cue though, I believe, since they want people to share

  4. u can't
