Stopping spammers at source?

my husband has been responding to spammers on his messenger list I put them on ignore and he takes them off how do I stop this at source

mark them as spam and they will automatically go into the spam folder. then frequently delete every item in it without opening.

DONT RESPOND TO SPAMMERS!!! If you respond...they know your email address is valid and will spam you even more. They only way to get rid of this is to get a new email address. Or you could use a spam filtering program like norton antispam.
