I am needing some very cheap ideas on storing some things around my house. There are many that I just can't find any ideas for....some ideas and/or some examples of what you use in your own homes will be very helpful. I will list the areas I am having some trouble in :

Toy box ideas for my two children, boy (3) & girl (1)

(Match box cars, stuffed animals, Small hand toys, etc)

Papers for filing & new incoming mail

Place for keys and loose items near door

Tupperware in the Kitchen (large and small)

Items such as light bulbs and household hardware

I guess this is about it. I just have a hard time finding a place for these sort of things. Thanks = )

  1. "Place for keys and loose items near door"

Keybox! Best thing i ever put in my hallway.

Don't know how many keys you have, but mine holds about 15.

Got it of eBay for £6. A nice wood one

The link bellow is the one like mine.

With lots of convenient hooks in...

  2. For lightbulbs I use cardboard shoe boxes. You may already have enough on hand to use for sorting your bulbs. Be sure to label the box or use a Sharpie to list contents. Real cheap see-through shoe boxes are excellent for small stuff like household hardware. They are cheap and stackable! For a place to hold keys and other loose items near your door, look around at what you might already have. A wicker or glass bowl, a wooden box, etc. When I started to look at my things in a different way, I found different ways to use them! You don't need a fancy, expensive item for sorting the mail, like the wood and metal doodads they sell in stores. Just use a simple manila file folder or get a cheap pocket folder now that "back to school" things are on sale! Toss out junk mail right away so it doesn't pile up, and be sure to use a shredder for anything with your name and address on it. If you don't have a shredder, tear out your address or cut it.

  3. Want cheap?  No problem!!!

(Match box cars, stuffed animals, Small hand toys, etc) ~  You can purchase file boxes from any Office Depot or even Walmart.  These are the boxes where files are kept and stored.  Cover them with paper bags and let your kids color, paint or sticker them!

They come with a top so you can shut them up!  The kids will love it!

Papers for filing & new incoming mail ~ You can use a plastic or cardboard file box or expandable organizer.  These are broken down by months and/or categories.  Again, Walmart or some office supply company.

Place for keys and loose items near door ~ Want cheap????  Use containers which once had food in them!  Don't want to go that far?  Use a bowl from your kitchen cabinet.

Tupperware in the Kitchen (large and small) ~ I sell Tupperware!  I am a Star Manager.  Want cheap???  Have a catalog show.  Sell and earn up to 20% of as hostess credits.  Use the $ to purchase the items you want to organize your kitchen.  Think Modular Mates for your cabinets and Fridgesmart and Fresh N Cool for your fridge!

Items such as light bulbs and household hardware ~ If you want cheap, you can get a plastic container or cardboard box and add an insert which allows for sections to be created.  These come with tops and some with handles for easy access!

I guess this is about it. I just have a hard time finding a place for these sort of things. Thanks = ) ~  You can actually buy most of these items from Walmart or an Office Supply store.

If you would like items to last a lifetime which also allow for versatility, I do recommend Tupperware.  We offer a lifetime warranty as well.

It's all up to you!  Me?  I'd go with the file box for the kids' stuff and Tupperware for the rest!

Let us know what you decide!!  I'm sure no matter what you do, you will be satisfied!

  4. Right up my ally (I am queen of cheap)

matchbox cars and small toys~ dollar tree sells shoebox sized storage containers that are clear with a lid (name brand too!)

for keys and loose items near door i have a pretty wicker basket (dollar tree)

Tupperware~ web search "Smart spin" 10 bucks works wonders

incoming mail~ a napkin holder that matches your decor (perfect trust me)

filing papers ~if you don't have alot (meaning like file cabinet) just get an expandable file folder i have one and all on my important documents fit fine and its no larger than a trapper keeper. If you have alot use the sturdy cardboard boxes that large quanities of typing paper comes in (free if you know someone who works in an office)

i keep lightbulbs under my kitchen sink and all hardware in a large capacity black and decker tool box about 25 bucks

  5. Rubbermaid has fantastic storage containers in all shapes and sizes that can be stored under beds or stackable ones - I used these for my childrens' rooms and other rooms - due to lack of closet space (all through out older house).  Ikea also had various storage containers.  I utilized both and it wasn't "junky" looking. Easy to keep everything organized and easy to find.

  6. I might be able to help with the toys part. I added window seats with lift up lids. Hid the toys and added play seating.
