Question:

Store Card vs. Store Visa Card?

I have held a Macy's store card since 2002. I want to build credit so Im thinking about getting it switched to a Macy's Visa. I cant get a regular bank card because I dont have alot of credit history yet. I figure if i convert my store card to a store/visa card, I can build from there. I shop at Macys occasionally so its a good deal. My question is, is will Macy's automatically give me a Macy's Visa or do I have to go through the same drama like a bank? I was late once a couple of years ago and thats it. Should I pay off my balance now before I ask to switch over? Thanks!!

  1. You shouldn't be carrying a balance on a store credit card.  The interest rate is outrageous!  Pay it off and only charge what you can afford to pay in full each month.

You will have to apply for that Visa.  It may be easier to get thru Macy's but it will probably still have an outrageous interest rate.

  2. Beware of Macy's visa I applied for Macy's credit card and i found out they approved me for visa and store account. I kept it for about a year after that one day i got a letter saying they are closing my visa account do to high balances etc. Good luck with them
