What happens if something isn't sold? Like a toy or something. And how do stores close out of no where?

some companies that provide the products for stores will buy back unsold inventory(books, magazines, newspapers).  things that are not sold after clearancing them can go to stores like dollar stores or Big Lots, Only Deals, etc.  Some people buy odd lots of merchandise and sell it online(think Ebay) to reach a wider market.  Perishables I think are thrown away if they don't sell.
