Question:

Stores warning?

Has anybody else had this same problem.

I shopped in Tesco, Sainsbury's and Iceland and in each case, upon checking the receipt found I had been over charged.

OK, upon confronting the help desk I was refunded the money, but I cannot help thinking of all those people who put their trust in the validity of the store to be truthful in all things, and end up paying over the odd's.

A lot of people either do not have the time to check, as they have young children, or are elderly and not able to fully comprehend the layout of a receipt, item by item.

So when shopping in any store, stop and check all receipts. You could be the one out of pocket.

  1. We've never had that promblem but we have always checked the reciept, its silly not to these days

  2. I was overcharged for an item in Tesco's and when I pointed it out they gave me double back. They said it was their policy.

  3. Wow, your right, I never check my receipt. Next time I go shopping I will, thanks

  4. My husband always checks the receipt and often he has found that the supermarket has made a mistake and he had to go to customer service to get his money back. It has happen that often that he has even been given the item free of charge and also the money back. You have to take particular attention to reduced items because sometimes the check out person does not notice it and charge you full price.

sometimes you have to watch the deli counter and the roast meat counter because sometimes they put the wrong price on a whole roast chicken. Another time,  I was just about to walk away with my roast gammon,  when I noticed the price and the person had charge me £3.99 for a gammon that was marked as £2.00.

Also you have to check the fruit and veg because I picked up some very expensive fruit and my husband noticed that half of them was rotten. I know these things easily happens but there is an old saying " let the buyer beware". I get annoyed that when the ciggarette counter sales person does not give you a receipt and they look at you funny when you ask. When you go shopping for other things in the supermarket you need to have that receipt just in case the security officer questions you about the item you got from the cigarette counter. So I get a little annoyed when I have to ask for a receipt!!

Sorry I having a right old moan but I hope part of my answer has answered your question. take care!!

  5. You shouldn't accept the supermarket bribe, you should inform the office of fair trading

  6. I always check my bills but luckily for me I can count it in my head as I go round and know straight away if it is wrong. You are correct in saying don't take their word for it  I estimate 8 to 10% of my bills are wrong count that up over a year for all shoppers.  By the way they have never yet erred in my favour strange that would you say?

  7. Yes- Tesco's is terrible for showing a price on the shelf but charging you higher on the receipt, I always check now.

  8. This happens far too often in a lot of supermarkets - a particular member of staff did this in a local Iceland so that they could help themselves to the stock later - and because it had been paid for by someone it meant that the stock file was correct/it was accounted for.

Obviously there are genuine mistakes - but it is also a well known way for internal theft.

I agree with yourself - the only way is to check each receipt, and if your find that it is regular in a particular shop I would let Trading Standards know, but they will probably want evidence so I would suggest keeping your old receipts
