Question:

Storing, freezing alfalfa sprouts?

I really like to put alfalfa sprouts on my salad and sometimes my sandwiches, but the container they come is is just too much for me to go through before they go bad.

Any advice on keeping them longer. I would not think they would freeze well.

  1. I think they would go to mush when they defrosted.  If you were planning on cooking them or something that could be ok.  I sugest you just put more on your sandwich and use them up faster.

  2. They should freeze, you can buy frozen ones already.

  3. Just use them up faster. If you freeze them your loosing a lot of the benefits gained in eating fresh sprouts. You could always chop them up in the food processor and add them to other recopies like: breads, bean loaf, or bean burgers.

BTW: If you buy alfalfa seed you can grow what you need in a sprouting jar. This is much cheaper then buying them already sprouted.
