Question:

Storing baby clothes?

Can anyone give me any advice on storing baby clothes? I was planning on getting some big plastic tubs but not sure if this will cause a moisture issue as they will not breath. Is there anything that you can buy that absorbs the moisture (like the little sachets you get in shoe boxes LOL)?

any info would be great

  1. Storing baby clothes as in putting them away because your not using them or just keeping them somewhere while your not using them at the moment? I assume because your worried about moisture you won't be using them for a while, so I assume you are putting them for a while.

If you won't be using them, plastic tubs will be fine, or space bags if you are worried about moisture.

Mesh bags will be good if your just putting them away while your not using them.

  2. as i said give them away or lend them away or put them in big safe bags in the shed.. you can use my shed if you need a shed, but there are already clothes stored in there but there not baby's clothes, but luckily it is a big shed well shed slash gym but still plenty of space

  3. I use plastic tubs and seal them with duct tape.... so far so good!

  4. I don't know

  5. use moth balls

  6. I have my baby clothes in a plastic tub, I dont seem to have a problem with the moister.  The clothes are in plastic bags inside of it though, that way I can keep the sizes seporated.  I plan on washing them again when I need to use them though, even though I washed them b4 I put them in there.  I'de say as long as the clothes are clean and not wet or damp when you put them in there they are fine.  Or you could always through in a dryer sheet or two.  They help absorb some of the moister.  Good luck.

  7. vacuseal or some ****? lol seriously, they sell it on infomercials.

  8. We have used the plastic tubs and they work fine.  They also have those vaccum systems that you place the clothes in a special bag and vaccum it, taking out all the air.  No moisture will be in.

  9. I have 4 kids so I have tons and tons of clothes and I buy those space bags. I put a bunch of stuff in the space bags and vacuum out the air and then put them into the storage bins and put a label on them so I know exactly what is in each tote. The space bags are great they let in NO moisture at all and I love them. HSN sells them in big quantities really cheap.

  10. i use plastic tubs good luck

  11. A Cheap way is to use a garbage back. Its pretty much the same concept of a space bag. Hold it at the end of the bag around the tube and turn it on before its done place a rubber band on it. Maybe a couple.

  12. Spacebags  :)

  13. like a thing that you can hang on the wall and has three plasese going down you can buy it at walmart or target :) have fun with your baby

  14. get a big draw put all thee summer cloths winter all that stuff in each draw

  15. I do the plastic tote. I have one in the bottom of each of my kids closets nd just  put stuff in there as they outgrow them! I have had no problem after storing them in the basement. However, my oldest is 5 so I can only speak to  5 years worth of storing :)

    Good Luck!

  16. well my mom still has clothes form my oldest sis who is 19 when she was a baby i suggest you put them in plastic tubs then when you have your next baby if your planning to wash them and use them again if you are not planning on having anther one than donate it or give it away to someone who is having a baby

  17. I have tons of the plastic storage tubs.  Only because I have 2 boys age 4 and 15 months and I am 7 months pregnant with another boy.  so what I do is I separate clothes by size then by season and I store them in the tubs and on the tub I mark the size and the season.  Then my husband built me a shed that I have them stacked up so when I need hammy downs I have them.  Now when I have to much stuff I give them away.  I have not had any problems using that system.

  18. My mom stored all my old baby clothes in a trunk...21 years later when I had my little boy they were all stiff and firm..not wearable or even washable...the clothes she had sealed in large ziploc bags were in perfect condition...not sure if this helps, but I've been storing all my son's outgrown clothes in large ziploc bags (and using the vac to suck out all air (it shrinks them down so I can fit more bags in a tub). Best of luck!

  19. The plastic tubs are fine, just make sure the clothes are clean, dry, and wrapped in plain white tissue paper.  If they yellow over time, you simply wash them in a 1/2 cup tide and 1/4 cup powdered Cascade (yes the diswashing soap) in your dishwasher.  Takes the yellow right out.  Oops, I mean washing machine.  :)

Spacebags are the best! They store flat, and are moisture resistant. Not too expensive either, considering that they're reusable and durable.

  21. you could try cedar blocks.  I have never had a problem though.  I also like to use vacuum seal bags.

  22. I have those big plastic tubs in the attic full of kid/baby clothes. I checked them recently and they had no foul odors so you would be fine doing that.
