Question:

Storing oak furniture in Sacramento, CA

Hi,

I need to store a beautiful oak TV stand that just doesn't fit in our house at this time. We're trying to fix up our house to sell (process of elimination (furniture) to keep the home simple) and buy bigger, so I don't want to get rid of it. I live in Folsom CA (north of sac 20 min). We get up to 110 degrees in summer and down to the 40's and lower in the winter. the shed (add on to house) that I'd like to put it in doesn't seem to leak at all from ceiling or floor, but I'm worried about the extreme temperature changes. Should I just drape it and pray, or does anyone else have any ideas? I'd rather give it to a family member or friend who would love it, than to see it deteriorate.

  1. It will acclimate with the weather just fine.  I would keep it away from any walls and up off the floor a few inches to let air move around it.  Keep it fully supported so that it can't sag.  If it is at all possible, you might want to put a coat of urethane on this piece(if needed).  One last thing, lay some plastic on the floor of the storage area so that moisture does not absorb up into the bottom of this unit.  good luck.
