Storing seeds?

I bought some squash seeds this spring, planted 2 just for fun, I had never grown anything from seed before, and thought it was too late in the season but they sprouted and grew and are now huge, but anyway my question is the seed package was a celephane plastic, and there are a lot of seeds in it, is there like an expiration on them, how many years can they last, do I have to put them in like a ziplock or something...any advice will help! Thanky!

  1. Take them out of the plastic and put them in an envelope stapled up the middle, put seeds on one side and the packet on the other side for future info, write on the out side what they are and the year and store them in a lunch bag in the closet, try them each year, and take some seeds from the fruit that grows and staple and envelope to the parent seed so you know what generation you have, Grandma/pa seeds and so on, give them names and share them with the real kids and maybe someday you will have an airlome to pass down.

  2. I have kepts extra seeds for a couple of years and had them still sprout. Keep them dry and in a cool place like the  rafters in the basement.

  3. they are packaged with a dated growing season, but i have stored seeds in a capped jar or bag, and planted years later and did fine, you could also save seeds from the squash you harvest as well

  4. The life of a vegetable seed depends on the vegetable.  Some, such as lettuce and sweet corn should be replaced each season.  Your squash seed can be stored for 4 or 5 years if you take them out of the plastic and keep them cool and dry.
