Stormers’ captain Schalk Burger praises his team for remaining unbeaten
Stormers ’captain Schalk Burger has been flattered by his team’s effort for remaining unbeaten in the current Super Rugby championship.
The Stormers are ruling on the points table with most victories at the moment. His team will take on the Reds, second highest victories producers in the Super Rugby competition in Cape Town on Saturday.
This would be the real test of his team as the Reds have proved them tough campaigners during last six rounds. Reds won five times in their previous six matches and Burger is aware of the fact.
Talking to the media Schalk Burger praised his side for performing consistently.
He said, “We know that once you start picking up a winning habit you must try and keep it going as long as possible. This is a long competition and you would anticipate that at some stage every team has to lose, but we also know that given the tough nature
of this tournament losing one game can quickly lead to you losing three games.”
He further said, “There is no time for complacency in this competition, because if you lose one game then you can easily go four down in a row, so while we're winning we want to keep it that way.”
Burger added that important thing is that his team wants to keep up the momentum which is very healthy sign. He argued that the motive behind their success is ‘the strong defence’.
Talking about their next clash against the Reds, he said that they have got a balanced side and there are few excellent players in the side. He pointed out towards Quade Cooper, Digby Ioane and Will Genia who had a tremendous tournament. The Stormers were
beaten by the Reds in Brisbane during last yeast year.
At the same time, he admitted the fact that there is always a great pressure of being on top of the tables. Once grab the first position people expect you even more, he said.
