Stormers to be tested against the Crusaders, Allister Coetzee - Rugby News
The Stormers’ coach Allister Coetzee stated that his side will face the real test of their expertise against the New Zealander derby, Crusaders on May 6 at Newlands.
Although the Stormers have performed much better in the current championship than the visitors but their coach finds the contest real challenge for his side.
The Stormers are leading on the point table over the Crusaders with the difference of two positions. The host, Stormers is currently placed on second overall on the table whereas the Crusaders’ are on fourth. The South African conference Stormers had sustained
just one defeat in the matches played so far.
Coetzee has warned his side despite all advantages over the Crusaders. He is well aware of his opponents as they have got real depth in their squad. The Crusaders were struggling with large scale injuries during their last few games. However with the comeback
of their skipper Richie McCaw, Israel Dagg and centre Sonny Bill Williams they have become a strong unit.
Meanwhile the visitors will miss their fly-half Dan Carter and prop Ben Franks in a very crucial meeting. The Stormers’ coach was very eager to see the battle between many counterparts in the coming clash. He stated that it will be nice to see Schalk Burger
and McCaw leading from the front along with Jean de Villiers, Jaque Fourie and Williams, Robbie Fruean in action against each other.
Coetzee added, “The Crusaders hardly have weaknesses, they have a solid pack and their counterattack is excellent, so we have to look after the ball and use it well.”
Meanwhile the Crusaders coach also applauded their opponents Stormers and said that he is also expecting close contest against them. He added, "The Stormers have a very good defence and are smart on attack, so we have to be on top of our game ... we probably
won’t get as many chances to counterattack as we did against the Force, so we have to look after our possession, and we can’t afford to give away many penalties."
The forthcoming clash between the Stormers and Crusaders is very crucial for both teams to ensure their place in semi-finals.
