Stormy Cain storms the castle in A7 race at Hall Green
When a greyhound bounds out of its trap at the races, anything can happen. The dog will either storm ahead of the pack to hold an early pace, or it will falter, causing it to fall behind.
In one dog’s case, an early pace was the key to victory in Monday’s 480m races at the Hall Green Greyhound Stadium in Birmingham.
Stormy Cain (5-1) used an early pace from trap four to his advantage in the A7 race that began an exciting line-up of races. He also let first en route to finish atop the standings with
a time of 29.65 seconds. Mutton Cutlet, the favourite on 5-4 odds, took second place, despite crowding at second. He finished the race in 29.75, which was 1¼ lengths behind the winner.
Third place went to White Fury, the 10-1 long shot of this race. His finishing time of 29.93 was 2¼ lengths out of second place, but it was good enough to give him a surprise top-three
finish. Cropwell Venus (6-1) placed fourth in 29.99, missing out on third place by just ¾ lengths. The number five position was claimed by Drumscraw Ruth (6-1), who never showed. She finished in 30.25, 3 ¼ lengths behind Cropwell Venus. Lagganmore Rose’s (5-2)
clear run wasn’t enough to help her win, as she wound up in last place with a time of 30.27, missing fifth place by a neck’s length.
The A4 race that followed saw some close finishes for the top three positions. Mistys Dazl (7-2) led the run in to pick up the win with her 29.35 finish. Behind her by only a ½ length
was Kayleighs Blue (7-2), who completed the race in 29.39. Ryans Light (6-1) was just a head behind Kayleighs Blue in 29.40, which gave him a third-place finish.
Finishing in fourth place was Jabitoutjoe (8-1), who failed to jab out a top three finish in this race. Her time of 29.54 was 1¾ lengths behind third place. Drumena Dream, the 11-4 favourite,
bumped second and was forced to check at the three-quarter mark. He ran to a 29.82 finish that was 3½ lengths behind Jabitoutjoe. Stumbling at first proved that On The Sly (3-1) was no sly fox, as he finished the race with a time of 30.04. A distance of 2¾
lengths separated him from fifth place.
Stormy Cain had the inside track in Monday’s A7 race at Hall Green Greyhound Stadium, but will he be able to continue his winning ways? Find out when the races resume on Tuesday. The first
race of the evening is scheduled to begin at 19:30.
