Stormy Fortune races to close finish in A7 race at Sheffield
The most exciting part of a greyhound race, for many racing fans, is the finish. The six dogs sometimes keep a close pace behind one another, claiming their positions by a head, neck,
or other relatively small length.
The top three finishers in Monday’s 500m A7 race at the Sheffield Greyhound Stadium earned their positions with very little distance separating them. Stormy Fortune (5-1) was the victor
of this race, placing first with a time of 30.37 seconds. An early pace helped 6-4 favourite Graces Baby earn the number two spot in this race. Her finishing time of 30.38 was behind Stormy Fortune by only a head. Ashvale Glory (6-1) missed second place by
a head’s length, taking third in 30.39.
Angie Ruby (4-1) had every chance to earn a top-three finish, but wound up in fourth place with a time of 30.55. A distance of 2 lengths separated her from third place. Dromand Boy, the
7-2 long shot, landed himself in fifth place after crowding first and second. He finished the race in 30.61, which was just ¾ lengths behind the fourth-place finisher.
The sixth and final position was claimed by Wiguagainduck (4-1), who crowded second en route to a 30.69 finish. He missed fifth place by a single length.
Following the A7 race was a 280m HP race. Coming into this high-speed thriller, Runaround Tia was billed as the 2-1 favourite to win. Sure enough, she did, finishing in excellent form
with a time of 16.53. Effernogue Crash (5-1) was 2 lengths behind her with a clear run and a time of 16.69.
Roman Thunder, the 9-2 long shot of this race, was a surprise third-place finisher in this race. His clear run gave him a 16.87 finish that was 2¼ lengths behind Effernogue Crash.
Bumping the run in cost Shoestring Paige (7-2) a chance at finishing in the top three. She ran to a 16.99 finish that was 1½ lengths out of third place. Marinas Madam (4-1) also had some
trouble on the way to the finish line, crowding the run in. However, she did manage to match the fourth-place time of 16.99, finishing a shoulder’s length behind Shoestring Paige.
Last place went to Air Patrol (7-2), who experienced some bumping on the run in. He ran to a 17.05 finish that was ¾ lengths behind fifth place.
The dogs will continue to excite racing fans at Sheffield Greyhound Stadium when they race again on Tuesday. The action gets under way with an A4 race at 18:39.
