Question:

Story writing help needed?

Hi, well I am writing a story and need your advice on something. I am un-sure what to make my main character look like. Would it be better if she was scene and wearing lots of make-up or completely normal - possibly a little nerdy - and had very little make-up?

The reason I am asking this, is because the girl is starting a new school and she isn't going to fit in.

So which would be better?

Thanks!

  1. The scene chick seems more likely to make friends because you would assume she is more extrovert and outgoing than a slightly nerdy, plainer looking girl who may have to try harder to be noticed.

  2. Make her normal and not fit in. That way you condemn a lot more people.

  3. i think she should be very over the top so people would want to avoid her. try reading stargirl by jerry spinelli, about a strange new girl at a school. you might get some ideas... or staring up at the sun about a very S****y, smelly strange girl who is constantly bitched about and called offending names. (she finally finds a friend though) that might give you an idea.x x x

  4. Nerdy- loads of people at school wear make-up

  5. Well it depends what type of school she is going to and what the majority of the students are like. If most of them are scene, then she should be nerdy, whereas if they're more 'normal' or in a posh prep school then she should be different - scene. But again, this also depends on her personality. If she's outspoken and doesn't give a c**p what people make of her, then definately scene but if she's intent on blending in and not drawing attention to herself because she's shy or whatever then her style should reflect that.
