Stoychev and Kaziyski quit Bulgarian national team – Volleyball news
Men’s national volleyball team of Bulgaria came under heavy shock after earning a berth at the 2012 London Olympic Games on Sunday.
One day after the celebration, everyone was taken aback as head coach Radostin Stoychev and one of the key players of Bulgarian team Matey Kaziyski put up their resignations. Stoychev had already shown the intent to part ways with the team but Kaziyski’s
decision left everyone in awe. Both of them officially announced their departure from men’s national volleyball team of Bulgaria on Monday.
Bulgarian city Sofia recently hosted the World Olympic Qualification Tournament from June 8-10. Under the leadership of coach Stoychev and with the great support of top gun Kaziyski, the home team performed exquisitely well. The team played three matches
and finished with a perfect record of 3-0, which allowed Bulgaria to secure a trip to London.
In the first match against Pakistan, Bulgaria claimed straight set win and Kaziyski added six spikes and one serve ace. Furthermore, he claimed seven spikes and 2 aces in the next match against France, while scored 12 points in the last match of the qualification
tournament. On the whole, he put up valiant effort for his team.
Nonetheless, the star player decided to quit before the start of Olympics. He appeared at a press conference on Monday and made following statement, "I cannot work with these people (the federation), hence my decision to quit.” He made harsh comments about
Bulgarian Volleyball Federation and fellow players in the team.
Likewise, Stoychev had issues with federation’s Chief Dancho Lazarov for quite some time. He had already declared that it was either him or Lazarov after the Olympic Qualification Tournament. However, the federation chief did not step down from his post
at the weekend, which tempted Stoychev to come up with the final decision.
Stoychev also made an appearance on media, where he looked visibly moved. He stated, “Since there has been no resignation tabled by Dancho Lazarov so far, I confirm that I am undertaking action to end my contract as national volleyball team coach.”
The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation, on the other hand, has not made any remarks about the resignation of team coach and the key player.
