The first report of the news was provided by FoxSports.com, which contacted Strahan in Greece where he was vacationing.

“This has been one of the toughest nights of my life,” Strahan told FoxSports.com. “But after long deliberation and throwing around a million scenarios in my head for the past day, I think it’s just best if I stay retired.”

  1. Excellent decision to finish on top. They got out of him all they could. No need to tarnish his legacy coming back like someone else  we know.Any way I doubt he could help them much. I doubt they make the playoffs with or without him.

  2. He should leave with dignity and not be a Bret Favre.  I'd totally stay retired if I were him, he got a nice broadcasting deal.

  3. I'm not sure. Osimenura (sp), the other defensive end is injured. I heard that the Giants made a call to Strahan asking him to come out of retirement. I'm sure he'll still do fine if he comes back.

  4. Let the man walk out a champion. He did something not too many people aside from Ted Williams, and John Elway have done in sports...leave with a bang. He's had a good career, and his body is tired. He is a fine player, and puts up a good arguement for the Hall of Fame.

  5. Even with Strahan and Umeniyora, the Giants were a longshot to repeat.  And as with any team that wants to make a run at the Superbowl, a solid depth chart is paramount.

Strahan accomplished all he set out to do in football.  He gained wealth, a championship and probably a trip to Canton....and he got out with his health mostly intact.  He would be a fool to return...especially as a career in broadcasting awaits.

  6. It was a good choice by him, he went out on top and it was his choice, not because of an injury or him not playing well anymore. He already has a broadcasting job, so he has a contract with that, and i doubt he is in football shape seeing as he hasn't worked out as hard as he normally does to get ready for the football season, it could get him hurt and he wouldn't be as good.

  7. Good for him for staying retired if that is what he wanted to do.He did seem very happy about being retired & you are right it wasn't his duty to come back.

  8. Good move because he already announced his retirement and is ready to start his broadcasting career.

  9. If his mind and heart is not in the game he should stay retired. I think it would take him four or five games to get in shape and I think he is done with all those workouts!

  10. If I'm not mistaken, Strahan retired BEFORE the draft. The Giants have had ample time to sign, trade for, and acquire rookie developed and even veteran defensive talent. Every other team in the NFL made use of the spring and summer to bolster their roster. If I were a Giants fan, I'd be embarrased the team would ask him to pull a Brett Favre, just because they have an injured player.

Maybe they can call 56 and see if he's busy.

  11. yes i believe he needs to stat retired it is better for him

he shouldnt let osi's llife conflict with his

    osi get well

  12. He should stay retired since he left of his own accord ... I am glad he has decided to stay off the gridiron.  He left the game on his terms and has shown he is happy with his decision, even with the temptation of playing once more.
