Straight to crossover adapter ,,will it work?

hi guys

i have a straight network cable and want to connect a 5 port switch to another 5 port switch,i accidentally ordered a straight network cable,however i have a Crossover Skt -> Straight Plug RJ45 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Connectors/Crossover+Skt+-%3E+Straight+Plug+RJ45?productId=18563),can i use this to turn a straight network cable connection into a crossover...any ideas

  1. Switches connect with straight-through cables, not crossovers. You don't need the adapter.


  2. Sure, that will work fine.

    Most switches have this built in - there's a switch on the switch that toggles one of the jacks between normal and uplink - straight thru and xover

  3. To connect two switches on the same LAN, you use a straight CAT5 patch cable, not a cross  cable.

    If the switches are auto sensing, they will be able to detect a cross cable and auto compensate for the error.

  4. No that wont be a problem, you dont need a crossover cable or an adapter, just plug the ethernet cable into the first switch then into the other switch, then configure it and that should be it.
