Question:

Strange Roommate?

For over a month, my roommate has been slamming the front door whenever she leaves in the morning. On one occasion, I heard the front door slam shut twice in a row. My bedroom is closest to the front door so it affects me the most out of all the roommates. Yesterday, I asked my roommate if she could be a little more careful about how she shuts the front door on her way out in the morning. I noticed that today, she did the same thing. I don't want to make a big deal out of this minor situation, but does she not have any commen sense?

  1. Do you think that she is doing it on purpose?  Whenever I got in my brother's car I used to close the door hard till one day he said to stop slamming the door.  I thought to myself, "what are you talking about; I'm not slamming the door."  Then when I got my own car and someone closed the door "hard", I realized what he was talking about.

Give it a couple of days.  Try not to get angry and blow your top.  If after a couple of days she still didn't remember to go light on the door then sit her down and communicate with her.  Let her know that it bothers you (I said communicate, meaning hopefully both of you understand how each other feels about it and a change can be made).  Communicating will also help you to know if she's upset with you about something.

Maybe you can bring your other roomates in on the conversation if you talking to her again doesn't help.

Living with people can be a pain.  Wishing you all the best.

  2. I bet she does that on purpose.

  3. Put a note by the door that says "Please don't slam the door on the way in or out.  Thank you!"  It is probably habit.

  4. Chances are you have linoleum or wood in front of the door right?

Get some butter and butter the floor in front of the door. Next time she goes to the door she'll slip and fall.

If you don't want to hurt her, you can get some foam door sealer. It comes in big rolls and has a sticky side. You apply it to the door jam and it will make it harder to slam.

  5. wow i would be a little more mad at this lol i would give an alternative im sorry im a little mean so i wouldnt  take this situation lightly

  6. Kick her out.

  7. I once had a roommate that would act that way, He seemed ok and said nothjing was wrong, when I asked him if I had upset him someway, but He would mummble and grumble and slam the door when he left in the morning, too. he would never say anything to me, so I just packed up and moved out when he was at work one day. It got to be too uncomfortable, especialy when he wouldnt say what was bothering him.

  8. I rather live in a cabinet than with a roommate!

  9. My building manager put one of those automatic door closers on the front door because of fire regs. It was impossible to slam.

  10. no, i just think she is either inconsiderate, passive-aggressive, or maybe does not realize how loudly the door sounds when she slams it.

wait a few days and if she keeps it up, then tell her, it may just be that she forgot to do it this morning  (because she is probably just made it a habit now)
