My cat has swollen pink skin under her chin, and we don't know whats wrong with the poor little kitty. She hides from everyone because she knows shes in pain. We love her very much, and the vet dosn't care at all. She also has acne, which makes it worse. Could it be the itching from the pimples that makes her chin so swollen?

  2. How sad that your vet doesn't care!  There are a lot of good vets out there, keep trying until you find one.  Is she on any treatments for her acne right now?

  3. Acne is quite common in pets that eat out of plastic bowls. Plastic bowls can get tiny scratches in it that harbor bacteria and make it difficult to thoroughly clean. Make sure you use ceramic or stainless steel bowls and clean them often, especially if your pet is hyper sensitive. Also rub some neosporin on the chin until it heals. You really should look for a vet that specializes in felines or atleast change vets. A veterinarian should treat you well and your pet even better. One that doesn't isn't worth your time or money. Vets are no different than mechanics, some fix things and some make it worse. Get a copy of your medical records and move on.

  4. That is exactly what I was going to say. She is most likely itching under her chin to the point that it is swollen and red. You might want to consider changing vets if this one behaves like they don't care. Vet's cost too much money to not get what you are looking for. I am sure another vet would be able to give you something for the itching that will be helpful.

  6. She's bound to have sore skin if she isn't getting medication ointment for her acne which she will itch and scratch at while she has it.

Take her to another vet for a second opinion and the relevant medication for her ailment, as your present vet doesn't sound very good and leaving a cat without any assistance is very unprofessional.

For acne I've always used Hibiscrub which can be bought from any good health shops or chemist. But, your cat's chin sounds inflamed, so I'd seek vet advice first before you apply any ointment onto her chin.

I had one cat get severe acne on his chin years ago and it went all lumpy and red. The vet had to prescribe steroids for three weeks as he was in a lot of pain with it.

That's why since then I've always kept and used hibiscrub, only use metal feeding bowls and changed all my cats' diet to a raw and low grain high protein diet. I've not had any problems since.

    All the best.

  7. I don't believe that the vet doesn't care. If your cat is in pain, take it to the vet.

  8. The swollen skin could be from rubbing/itchiness....the other stuff could be a skin irritation...caused by bad diet, fleas, etc. DO THE RIGHT THING Get to a new vet for some advice and treatment or I'll come and eat you.

  9. Aw, poor kitty.

It sounds like the skin is just really irritated, my dog has major skin issues and I use spray from petco. I forgot what it was called because I haven't purchased any in awhile. But you should go to Petco and ask an Employee that looks knowledgeable about products for pets with dry itchy skin.

  10. The Acne has probably become infected & needs specific treatment for it to be cleared up once & for all. Your vet sounds incompetent! I would seek the advice of another vet who is decent & knows how to do their job properly in order to help your poor cat.
