Question:

Strange clicking noise

I have a 2004 Honda CRF250R. When I accelerate on a hill, I hear a clicking noise. The free play in my chain is fine and the teeth on my front and rear sprockets is also fine. Any ideas as to what it could be?

  1. What most people don't understand is that the tension on the chain is different when the bike is still than it is under load. When the sprocket is pulling on the chain (acceleration) there is more slack in it. I noticed this one day when i was riding. My chain was tight during my pre-ride inspection. When i got on the highway, the sun was positioned in a way I could see my shadow right next to me. i noticed my chain was bouncing around clacking on my swing arm. I didn't hear it because of the exhaust but I felt it.

Gotta tighten it a little more.

  2. try tightening the chain & see if it still does it...
