Question:

Strange form of lucid dreaming?

My friend keeps having these weird nightmares. Usually it's an older (and freaky) woman who looks like her sitting in a chair in her room crying that she doesn't want to be alone. My friend does have a fear of being alone (without a partner), so the cause of that is obvious. I believe she also had a similar dream about the devil (instead of the woman). And whenever she tries to approach the person, she wakes up. It's always as if the person is in her bedroom. How can she stop these weird nightmares?

  1. She needs to cope with these emotions. Clearly the dreams are a representation of her irrational fear of being alone, although many people share this fear. The old woman is evidently representing herself when she is older, namely she will grow old alone, but i find the devil reference a little more difficult to interpret, but i assume it means evil in this situation. Finally, i believe the part about her waking up to be a lack of ability to deal with the emotions (the old lady and the devil) in her dreams, and that inability alone allows the nightmares to continue. As studiers of psychology, we cannot decide what it means for you, only the dreamer can, given the immense load of knowledge obtained by said person, but i wish you and your friend the best of luck!

  2. Yeah thats not lucid dreaming. Um. . . Like you said it obvious. She needs to deal with her very real fear of being alone. Incorperating the devil though I'm not sure about that. Try an interpritaion sight.  dreamdictionary.com

  3. By lucid dreaming. Look it up. I don't think it means what you think it means.

  4. Usually re-occuring dreams happen when the unconscious mind tries to bring stuff to the conscious mind and thus to our attention. The best way to stop this from happening to your friend every night is to make sure she goes to sleep thinking that she CAN change the outcome.  She needs to understand that dreams are what she makes them, she can controll everything that happens almost like a movie.  Tell her to keep her thoughts on changing, from the woman sitting in the chair to laying in a bed, or see if she can make the woman talk to her. Hope this helps!
