Strange noise from kitchen off and on all day, all night! HELP!!?

For the past month or two, I have been hearing strange noises from the kitchen that only last a few seconds but are very frequent. It sounds as though the garbage disposal is stuck. That type of humming noise. BTW this happens when nothing is running...The garbage disposal runs fine though. This is really annoying and is hard to ignore. I think maybe it has to do with the hot water because ever since the city fixed something with the water to the apartment complex my hot water doesn't come out hard anymore. I don't know where to start looking for problems or how to go about fixing this. Any help would be appreciated!

  1. Do you have an automatic ice maker? The water filling it can make a growl and/or the part that pushes the ice out into the bin can make the same noise.

  2. I would first check the fridge move it out make sure nothing is behind it, roll it back and make sure its level, If you believe it in the water line shut off the water supply under the sink, remove the k***s and then the valve stems. check the valve washers and replace. if that is more than you are comfortable with. try shutting of the water just to see if the noise stops, then notify a repairman.

  3. it could be your refrigerator....mine does that ALL the time, and its nothing to worry about. We've had it for around 5 or 6 years now, and it is perfectly fine.

  4. It's probably your refrigerator.  They make a noise every now and then, but nothing to worry about.

  5. Could it be from the icemaker?

  6. i don't think that it would have anything to do with whatever the city done to fix the water it probably is your fridge they are noisy little things have you tried to sit there and listen for it to make the noise

  7. Ghosts

  8. Ruby is probably right. Thoroughly clean under your 'fridge.

  9. you mentioned the hot water maker it sounds like it is clogged  first look in the cabinet find the outlet and unplug the hot water maker you'll probably find the noise is gone if not unplug the frig and see if it stops then both items do create noise at various intervals and the hum dosen't mean that there is necessarily anything wrong.           good luck

  10. Perhaps it's your refridgerator's motor, some are annoyingly loud and perhaps its ready to die out. When you hear the noise, unplug your fridge and the noise should go away. Then you'll know if its your fridge motor.

  11. My automatic ice maker/ refrigerator makes wierd noises when filling with water or dropping ice also in the auto. defrost cycle.

  12. It could be several things. My first suspect would be your refrigerator. If your renting then I'd inform the maintenance crew via the manager. It may also be a water valve vibrating in it's backseat.

  13. Could it be your refrigerator?

The compressor at the back of the fridge turns on every time the temp starts to rise (that's how it keeps it cool), and then shuts off after a minute or so. This makes a humming sound usually but can make all sorts of sounds if it's old/malfunctioning. This would explain a periodic strange sound which went on/off all day/night when nothing's on.

  14. How long have you been in the house? Don't mean to scare you but we once moved into an old house that the water would come on and go off several times a day, by itself....and we constantly heard little foot steps running thru the house constantly. but then again it just might be a mouse in the house.

  15. It very well could be several things,  but as long as it's a humming and not a scratching type of noise then I would suggest it is your refridgerator.
