Question:

Strange pains!?!?! 10 points for someone who can help me!!!?

I really need some help on this! I became a raw vegan about 2 or 3 days ago and everything has been great but to day I woke up with horrible stomach pains! I was previously a regular vegan and never had any problems. I even used the b-room but I've still been having these pains in my stomach off and on all day! Can anyone tell me what could be wrong? Is it the new shift in diet, is it my body getting use to raw foods only, should I see a doctor or something?

ANd to let you know what i've been eating its been....

*Brocoli, mushrooms, spinach, onions, green and red peppers, coliflower, apples, strawberries, grapes, cherries, and fruit juice and water! Could any of these foods be the culprites?

  1. Your body is trying to get used to your new diet. Also, fruit has tons of acid and when you eat too much of it, it can make your stomach start hurting..  Also, some of the vegetables that you mentioned are kind of gassy - such as broccoli and onions... mushrooms are good but sometimes you have to be careful with them because if you eat too many then it could be unhealthy. You have been eating lots of acid and you switched your diet to fast..

    Relax and little, have some water and maybe you can take some medicine so your stomach feels better

  2. Sounds like wind to me.

    It always happens when you increase your fibre intake. And of course, when you switch from cooked vegan to raw vegan, you get an instant fibre increase.

    If you combined your food incorrectly, that can cause a build up of wind and pains in your gut. So try eating mono meals for a few days and see if that helps.

    I am not a doctor but I expect you need a good old fashioned f**t and possibly a bowel movement.

    Try taking Chia seed gel in your juice. It is a natural seed, which is completely raw. It binds waste together and helps to improve bowel regularity.

    I took me weeks to adjust to raw vegan. Maybe you started too rapidly. Maybe have cooked and raw vegan for a few weeks, slowly increasing raw, until your body gets use to it.

    Also did you thoroughly wash the fruit & vegetables before consumption? This is very important, as the person who handled the produce in the shop before you, may have had dodgy hygiene habits.

  3. Probably all the raw foods are stressing out your digestive system because you are still adjusting to your new diet. It will go away in a few days.

  4. Any and all are culprits as you are getting roughage, acid and sugar. You either have gas pains, or have an allergy to the acid in the foods you are consuming. If you dont consume even something whole grain with it? You are asking for stomach problems. Eat some protein, a carb like a potato, or some rice with this. Not good over time what you are doing to your gut. You are asking for ulcers.

  5. Ooooooh!! I know! I went through the same thing! I just went vegan within the last week. I would eat a salad or whatever and in about 10-15 minutes I would get awful tummy cramps!

    It didn't make sense to me either, the food is better why would I get ill? But then I stumbled across the term "toxic hunger", so I looked it up. This is what I found:

    After I read that the sensation didn't hurt, but felt more like a tingling. I intend on purchasing the author's book as well, apparently it's very helpful.

  6. Lots of fibre, maybe it's gas. I tried the raw vegan thing recently, I couldn't do it... I didn't have the will power. =(

  7. Your body is adjusting to the new diet.

    I had the same problem when I switched from regular milk to soymilk.
