I met a man today whose last name is "Transgupta" he is Indian and I know that "Gupta" is a popular indian name but where/how did the latin "trans" get attatched to his surname?

I did not want to ask him, but... any ideas???

  1. Your interpretation has a common Western bias. What you perceive as a Latin prefix is merely a coincidence. I have encountered the surnames Dasgupta and Sengupta. While I have not come across a Transgupta, I would not be surprised to see such a name.
