Strange thing when downloading software installers to desktop?

Whenever I download and save an installer file to my PC, it saves it was a Word document, instead of the regular software. How do I change it so it doesn't do this?

Check the options in the download manager. It has to be set up for a default folder to download to. It sounds like it is also set up for a default file type. You can change this when you are asked to confirm a download.

Depending on where you are getting them from, they might also be fake installers, OR instruction documents with a link to the installation inside them. I'd think more than twice before downloading anything from a link in a Word document, as they have known security problems.

Try getting the installer from a totally different site, ideally the main site of the maker of whatever it is you are trying to install.
