Question:

Strange white larvae like material under leaves?

I have noticed that my mint and another plant (galán de noche in Spanish) are not doing too well no matter how much water and sun they get. The other day, when picking mint, I noticed that it looked like some birds had pooped on it. Then, when I looked under the leaves, I noticed this white stuff under lots of them. I have just inspected the other plant and found the same stuff. I don't know what it is but it is white, looks like bird dropping (although it can't be as it is under the leaves) and is in various sizes. It kind of looks like a paste but I am presuming it is some kind of larvae.

Does anyone know what this is and even better, know how to get rid of it?

I would favour natural ideas as I use the mint for cooking and am not that keen on putting pesticides on it.

Thanks

  1. It could be the froghopper larvae which is harmless to plants and can be hosed off if you like.

  2. It could be aphids, scales or mites.   You can use malathion or Sevin in accordance with label direction.

  3. didn't read all your question too long, but sounds like green flies collect some ladybird/bugs they love eating greenflies
