Stranger Lee Ki-sang takes over K.J Choi and Anthony Kim in third round of CJ Invitational
Young South Korean Lee Ki-sang has surged to the top with an amazing third round performance, carding a score of eight-under, 64 at the inaugural CJ Invitational on Saturday, October 22. The 25-year-old Lee, who is little known in the sports circle, took
over the overnight leader American Anthony Kim to grab the lead at the warm and breezy Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club.
“Whenever I hit the ball, it kept going into the hole. I couldn’t believe it. I was doing very well and I just tried to keep my score. I tried to make a new record, maybe a 10-under or something, but my iron play after the turn was not good,” said Lee.
Starting off the event with a humble 70 in the opening round, Lee went over to card 67 in the second round and brilliant 64 today to move ahead of the rest of the field which also includes the host world number 14 K.J Choi. The young South Korean, however,
is little influenced by the high profile presence right next to him.
“I will play like how I have done this week. It’s a big burden but I’ll try to overcome this pressure. I’ve never played with K.J. before so I am looking forward to it. K.J. is a hero to all young golfers and professional players.” said Lee.
Lee birdied the opening four holes and pulled in a glorious Hole-in-One at the very next hole. He carded another birdie at seventh to dissolve Kim’s overnight lead of three shots. Kim later admitted that Lee appeared as if he was playing a video game and
feared if Lee went over with the same form tomorrow, he will be hard to take over.
Meanwhile, Choi, host of the $750,000 event, is three shots behind the lead with an aggregate score of 204. The Players champion has remained consistent in all the three rounds through the weekend, conceding rounds of 68-66-68.
Thailand’s Prom Meesawat, nick-named “The Big Dolphin” more because of his burly physique, finished for a joint fourth alongside Korean David Oh. Both players are trailing the leader by five shots.
