I've been thinking about enrolling in the medical transcription at Stratford. The problem is I can't find out if anyone actually gets a job from these programs at Stratford or any other distance education "college". Does anyone have or know someone with a job because of the distance education course they took? Thanks for you help.

  1. I have done medical (clinic) transcription in an office, and I have also worked from home as a medical transcriptionist; I never took any formal training (other than medical terminology) and learned medical transcription on the job years ago.  However, I have looked into several medical transcription programs.  Stratford Career Institute is not a good one.

There are three very good schools for medical transcription known as "the big/top 3." They are as follows:

    1) M-Tec

    2) The Andrews School

    3) CareerStep

These schools are well known by medical transcription service organizations, and if you do well in their programs, you will find a job.  Finding your first MT job will not necessarily be easy, but if you are well trained you will have an advantage.

CareerStep training can be taken via Everett Community College in Everett, Washington and it can also be taken through San Juan College in San Juan, New Mexico. If you take the CareerStep training through a community college that offers it, you can get Financial Aid if you qualify. The only drawback is that you will have to take the classes based on the college's school/academic year rather than your own self-paced schedule.

Online training for medical transcription is the way to go.  If you train online with a legitimate school, you can easily transition to working  at home as an MT if you choose to do so.

    I hope this is helpful.

  2. I disagree..I think Stratford Career Institute is a great place to take the course, and I got a job from taking the course.  My employer recognized the certificate and had no problem with it.  I can't speak to the other schools mentioned below.  This Medical Transcriptionist Training correspondence course can prepare you for a fulfilling job interpreting and transcribing dictation from physicians and other health care providers.
