  1. The High Roller was removed for various reasons!

  2. It's gone.

I have to tell you a story about it though.  When it was first put in, about a week or two later on the news came a breaking news report about how it jumped the track and a car dangled off the side of the Stratosphere in full view of the diners at the Top of the World restaurant.  No kidding.  The next day the PR folks at the Stratosphere hushed it up and it was never on the news again.

Howver, talk to locals who lived here then and we all remember that happening.

Here's another Stratosphere tidbit.  Did you know that the Statosphere is only 10 feet down into the ground?  Yup, you read that right.  10 feet into the ground.  I guess it was very well engineered though as it hasn't toppled over yet.  However, I forbade my kids to ever to there.  (of course they disobeyed me and went anyway when I thought they were going to Adventure Dome)

  3. The High Roller was dismantled and sold since it was no longer profitable to have it running.

  4. The other problem is that the high winds forced it to be closed all the time. They make more money scaring the h**l out of people on rides that push them over the edge. The roller coaster didn't do that.

    ----------

They also closed the old roller coaster at the MGM Grand. The Lightning Bolt was shut down in September 2000 after only seven years. MGM figured they could make more money building some condo/hotel towers (called the Signature Towers) than they could make on an amusement park.

    ----------

There are only the three roller coasters left. The one at Circus circus that isn't very fast, but inverts you four times. The one at Sahara hotel which is very short but extremely fast. And the one at New York ,New York which is the biggest one in the city.

  5. It was called the "High Roller."  It was dismantled on December 30, 2005 to make way for one of the new rides.  It was considered a wimpy roller coaster because it's top speed was 30 mph.
