Strauss' future on hold ahead of ECB press conference – Cricket News Update
The future of England’s Test skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, has been put on hold after reports in the English media suggested that the veteran left-hander might be in line to relinquish his captaincy following a disappointing end to the home summer, where the
Poms lost their Test supremacy to South Africa.
The England and Wales Cricket Board has further announced a press conference at Lord’s today – headed by managing director http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806, who was
omitted from the final Test against the Proteas.
The left-hander was reportedly upset by the ongoing saga involving the ECB and Pietersen but was eventually dragged into it following revelations that KP had sent derogatory text messages to the opposition (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757), where he remained critical of his
current Test leader.
That shook everyone in the English camp, forcing the ECB to exclude the player from the deciding Lord’s clash just a week after KP had smashed a cracking ton at Headingley to instill some renewed self-belief in his teammate, following a mauling suffered
in the opener at the Oval.
And Despite putting up a valiant fight, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, claiming that he still had ‘a lot of desire’. However,
he also confirmed that he will be taking a break from cricket in order to spend some time with his family before discussing his future with Andy Flower, the Head Coach.
"We all need to sit down - myself and [coach] http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362 in particular - and try and map out the way forward," said Strauss at Lord’s.
He was expected to feature for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 but extended his break, leading to further speculations about his future with the national team. He performed well below his standards in the Investec Series,
averaging just 17.83 in six innings, with the best of 37.
With the One-day side also losing the first-ODI, it remains to be seen what the future holds for two of England’s most gifted players.
