Strauss believes England can stage Ashes comeback
England Captain Andrew Strauss believes his team can bounce back from the demoralising 267-run defeat in Perth, and win the Ashes in Australia for the first time in 24 years.
The left-hander is adamant about the fact that one defeat will not undermine the side’s preparations for the encounter at Melbourne. It might be premature to be judgmental about the English team, but the heavy defeat in the third Test will have hit their
confidence hard, after they dominated Australia in the opening two games of the series. Considering how delicately the series is poised, confidence and morale matter significantly.
Strauss said, “I think the Australians came back strong, but we are quite capable of staging a recovery in no time.” Despite the fact that England did not look convincing in Perth, yet the intent to wrap up the series in the next Test was pretty evident.
Although the batting line up showed its vulnerability against swing and bounce, the same batsmen had scored freely in the first two Ashes encounters.
On the other hand, the Australians are well aware that the crux of the criticism has shifted towards England. The visitors’ sudden dip in form has drawn criticism from all quarters, while the Australians have managed to prove their detractors wrong. However
England are confident they can turn things around quickly and win the Boxing Day Test.
The likes of Kevin Pietersen, Alastair Cook and Ian Bell were unable to perform in front of some inspired fast bowling from Ryan Harris and Mitchell Johnson. They all started off well in Brisbane and continued their blistering form at Adelaide, before failing
dramatically in Perth. The third Test also exposed the fact that the visitors’ inability to perform under pressure. They could have made it very difficult for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the series by going two up, instead they find themselves level with the hosts.
This has made one thing clear; if England wants to retain the urn, they will have to perform in pressure situations. Strauss is however confident that his team can pull off another win and bring the urn back home.
