The ODI captain of England, Alastair Cook, on Tuesday lavished praise on the Test skipper, Andrew Strauss, calling him the “leader of the Test team”.

Speaking to media reporters on Tuesday, the 27-year-old Gloucester-born England opener revealed that the whole team was behind the struggling Strauss all through his patchy phase and were always hopeful of the left-hander coming out strong.
"Look, it [criticism] is part and parcel of the game,” said Cook when asked about the criticism and media campaign against Strauss over the last couple of months.
"I think now this side, pretty much everyone, has been through that cycle of criticism. You always have that as an England player. As we kept saying at the time when he was not converting runs into hundreds, we knew he would come back,”
he added further.
Until his 122 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Lord’s last month, Strauss, the 35-year-old left-handed opening batsman had not scored a hundred in the Test format of the game since November 2010. And the last Test ton at Gabba was his lone century
in more than fifty innings.

The Johannesburg born top-order batsman lived up to the hopes of selectors and team management and led the side from the front to seal the series 2-1.
"When he scored that hundred at Lord's I have never seen an ovation like it from a crowd, which shows how universally popular he is. In the dressing room everyone was desperate for him to get it. He is the leader of the Test team," said
Cook.
To date, Strauss has captained England in 46 Tests, winning 24 while losing only 9. He also led the Poms to back to back Ashes titles in 2009 and 2010-11.
