English Captain, Andrew Strauss lauded Alastair Cook’s impressive batting show with his maiden double century on the final day of first Ashes Test at Gabba, terming his innings as one of the greatest in Ashes history.
Cook gave a breathing space to English side by giving an impressive stand of 188 runs with his captain Andrew Strauss and then continued it with a brilliant second wicket partnership of 329 runs with Jonathan Trott.
Cook finished his career-best innings unbeaten at 235 runs as England declared on 517 for 1 which let http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 bat with only 42 overs left in the day.
Cook’s innings became the one of the six occasions for English players to make double centuries in Australia throughout cricketing history and first after Paul Collingwood scored 206 at Adelaide in 2006.
Few records that were surpassed include the highest score at Gabba buy any individual which was previously held by Donald Bradman who had made 226 runs at Gabba. England also bettered their record of highest partnership by any English batting pair in Australia.
Alastair Cook expressing his views about his innings and said that he was not aware about the records rather he and his partner Trott just wanted to extend their stay on the wicket as much as possible.
He further said that as he stayed on the crease for a while he got better and better and regarded the pitch to be an easy one to bat on.
Apart from that, Cook enjoyed fantastic last couple of days in terms of his performance and nullified the psychological effect last Ashes Test had on him.
Meanwhile Australia have recalled its two new bowlers, Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris to be included in the 13-man squad for the second Ashes Test at Adelaide.
According to Strauss, his team has got enough momentum to build on after experiencing a satisfactory display by his own batting as he led his team from the front. He believed that there is no need to change English bowling squad because for him bowlers bowled
some very good spells.
Second Test at Adelaide will show what miracles England can perform from such a victorious state of mind to a demoralised and struggling host side.
