I cant say if it is 10X faster but it is fast. No not much taste. Drink something you like the taste of.

Drinking beer through a straw wont get you drunk faster.

Putting the beer in your butt will get you drunk hella fast, but it can easily kill you because the alcohol wont go through your liver.

You can use a straw to shotgun bottles but aside from that I'd say the straw has little to do with it.  A person simply drinks as fast as they desire.
