Ok,this stray cat had kittens at our house (we did not witness this,we found them when they were 6-8 weeks) The Mom had been doing ok,we've been feeding them and giving them water (they are in the front yard and eat and drink at the front porch, away from our *neutered* cat,Boots.Thats a good thing because Boots need special food for his kidney problem, and shouldn't eat normal food.) My family is worried because

1.What if they breed? We can't catch them to spay/neuter them, they are WAY to fast

2.If we keep them,we would be responsible for vet, extra food, ect

3.We can't give them away (1 Mom would be pissed 2 we can't catch them

What do we do?

  1. If you want to keep them, try and trick them into getting into your house, it's easier to catch them there. If you're not going to keep them, you should call some kind of animal catchers. If you don't want to do that and just want to give them away or sell them, again, try and trick them to go into your house. It's easier to catch them if they are contained in one room. You can use food to trick them:P Any more questions? E-mail me! :)

  2. Call the pound or maybe you can give them away to friends.

  3. Search online for a no-kill shelter in your area.  Then ask them if you can borrow a trap to catch the mother cat and kittens.  It's a cage with that closes once they trigger it by stepping on the food platform inside.  They may even come out and trap them for you.  Some vets also have traps you can borrow and rental stores often have them as well.

I'm hoping Boots is an indoor cat.  If not and he eats out of the same food bowl as this mother cats and her kittens or if they trade saliva or blood in a fight then your cat could end up catching a disease from them such as Feline Leukemia.

Please don't hesitate in doing something about this.  Kittens can sexual mature as early as FOUR MONTHS and start breeding!  And the mother cat may already be pregnant again from a tom in your neighbourhood.

  4. contact a local no kill shelter or animal shelter and see if you can borrow / rent a have - a - heart trap trap the kittens and hopefully the mom and take them to shelter. They may ask for a donation

The kittens will grow up and breed and you will have a cat population explosion

  5. Your family is right, they will continue to breed.  At an astronomical rate.

The best solution is Trap-Neuter-Return.  Many shelters are now doing this.  They will loan you traps (you put cat food in it, the cat goes in and the door shuts - doesn't harm the cat) then take the cat to the shelter.  They should give you another cage.

Then, when the cat has been neutered, it's returned to the area.  It's really the best solution.  So call shelters in your area to find out which do TNR and what their procedure is.

    Good luck!

  6. Sounds like the best thing to do would to be try to catch them and give them away. Otherwise they will breed and then you will have sick cats from incest and stuff.

  7. You can call you local ASPCA to catch them.they treat the animals and everything and get them pretty up for adoption.

(If it was me I would take a kitten. =3)

  8. do not call the "pound" most counties have a policy of killing feral  Kittens and cats immediately. Look on the internet under feral cats rescue and find a local group, alley cats rescue is national and very helpful. A feral cat rescue group will provide humane traps, spay neuter so they can't breed, and help you set up a colony status with you as the foster parents so that you can obtain asassistanceith vet care vaccines and food. They will also let you call them at all hours and ask a zillion questions. The kittens just need a chance and they will come to you , one is sleeping beside me now. Just act responsibly and then believe in yourself and in them.It will take lots of patience but they will teach you and give you more than they will ever require. Bless you for caring
