last night a stray cat came into my garden and sat outside my back door for a good half a hour. i decided to feed the cat some makeral. (had no cat food) when i stoked the cat i noticed it was painfully thin. by this i mean you can actually feel its spine and all its ribs. i let the cat come into the house as i was seriously concerned about it. she is very weak and doesnt walk far before she has to sit down again. she has been eating and drinking abit of water, she has slight diarhoea, but i havent noticed that it has been for a wee. even if you take her outside all she does is sit there. she seems very depressed. and my mum seems to think she could be pregnant. i have made a appointment to take her to the vet later on today. i dont have a clue when it come to cats, and was wondering if anyone has any advice or know what could be wrong with her...now named socks!

many thanks

  1. shes probably very weak from starvation and doesnt have much energy. i agree to take her to the vet, theres so many things that can go wrong with cats, from diseases to parasites, if your taking her in bless your heart! not many people left in this world like that, i bet she will end up being your best friend ever for saving her life and bringing ehr back from a very bad stage in her life! good luck to your kitty friend and you, have a blessed day!

  2. probably not taken care of very well. Im sure if you gave her some kitty treats, and wet cat food, her weight would go up for sure.

Hmm... I've seen on another ad that someone is feeding their cat human baby food, since it has all the nutrients required for a growing human, that would maybe help? another i see is sardines in oil should help get your cat up in a better weight. Vet may give her some special food to get up n to a fair weight!!

  3. You should not touch the cat, as it may be either very sick (especially if it is skinny) or it may be undernourished. If it is undernourished then feed it, and make sure to take it to the doctor as soon as possible. It could be dangerous for you to be around the cat, so my general advice it to leave some food and water out, and take it to the vet very quickly for it might die of starvation or other things.

  4. kudos to you for taking the cat in and caring for it.  it needs to eat proper food and get plenty of water.  I found a cat like that many years ago, just skin and bones.  she was full of worms.  after deworming and great food and care, she has put on good weight and is now a happy cat.

  5. Cats make good pets.  Personally I don't think the cat is pregnant because it's so thin, sounds like it's malnurited.  It might be in some shock.  Personally, I don't like to let my cats be outside, I prefer housecats where they are familiar with their environment and protected.  Please take your cat to the vet and purchase some food (both can and dry); avoid giving cats fish (it's a myth) because male cats can develop a urinary infection.  If you have other pets, you might want to keep this cat separated from the others until he/she gets back to normal.  It's always the possibility that the previous owner may have abandoned the cat for health reasons.  Try not to be too overbearing with affection with the cat until he/she is acting normal, they don't know you and you don't know them, it might bite or scratch you and if they haven't had their shots, you might need shots.  Best thing to do is get them to the vet for a physical and advise.

  6. I would suggest trying to get more liquid into her body. If she is thin than she probably is not pregnant. Just listen to the vet and do what he/she says. Hope this helped. = D
