Question:

Stray cats age?

I have a stray tuxedo cat that we found about a month ago. The vet said he looked seven/eight months old when we found him and we had him neutered immediately. Well now he is starting to lose baby teeth and I thought that happened at six months. Is it possible he's just a late bloomer or is he has old as we suspected and will just be a large cat? (He's already almost as big as our one year old cats.)

  1. It sounds like he could be a month or so younger than what your vet thought probably because of his larger size.

He sounds very handsome being a tuxedo cat :)

All the best and good for you on giving a needy kitty a wonderful forever home!!

  2. Hard2Get is right.  Diet and lifestyle play a tremendous role in how cats age.

We have a cat who had the oppsite problem.  We adopted him off the street and he was already the size of an adult cat and had all his adult teeth.  We assumed she was female because of this.  A couple weeks later, something dropped and we found out New York (named then) had a package.

New York's name got changed to Jesse James, and we had him neutered.  The vet was even baffled, because he swore upon first exam that Jesse was a year old, until I explained the "Surprise" appearing at the back.  Then, he concluded that Jesse was probably only 7-8 months old, and a very large cat.

Your cat could just be like the reverse of Jesse, and the genitals developed early, but not the teeth.

You're doing everything right for him, he's fixed, he's got a good home.  I'm betting you're going to end up with a great big beautiful cat.  Like my Jesse is.  Best of luck to both of you!

  3. he is a large cat i would say

  4. He might be a late bloomer. but he could also have the teeth still cause his diet was not the best. As for being as big as one of your older cats.... Is the older cat a male or a female? I have 2 kittens... one male... one female. Both are unaltered right now... (*the appt to alter is coming on the 13 so please dont tell me i should alter them... I know i need to... its coming*) They are about a month and a week apart with the male being younger and he out weighs the female and he is bigger then her by alot!

Poor diet while a stray might contribute to his teeth. But he had to be eating least a lil decent... cause he is big? I dont know. Maybe his genetics are pointing him to be a big boy.

Love your baby no matter how big or tiny he is!

  5. well maybe hes just like you said hes a late bloomer ok well laterz=]
