Okay, so my family and I just took a stray kitten from the neighborhood. We think that they are 5 weeks old. Anyway, thie mother cat s a stray neighborhood cat. She has been having litters and litters and litters (etc.) so, we are trying to catch the mom cat, but we cant catch her when she has her kittens following her. So we took a kitten and she is really sweet. Today, the mom cat heard molly(the kitten we took) meowing for attention. I was eating at the time. So the mom cat was doing her kitten call, and wanted her kitten back. It made me really sad, but it is better for the kitten to be with us. So, how should I stop the mom cat from meowing for her kitten?

  1. Meowing for her kitten is a natural instinct. Just like a mother would call for her child if he/she was missing. You can't stop her, and I think the kitten belongs with the mother. If you are insistent on keeping the kitten, then just keep it, and eventually the mother will move on. However, I would suggest you call a Pet Welfare Agency, i.e. RSPCA if you're UK based, or the American Equivalent, get them to look after the mother, and keep the kitten with you, as you mentioned it's a lot safer.

    Hope I Helped.

  2. At 5 weeks it still needs her mother. So maybe you should give her back.

  3. let the kitten stay with the mum. Thats how it should be.

You can help the mom and kittens by giving them cat food.

Call some sort of animal rescue group if you think anything is up with any of the stray cat.

  4. i think u shud try let the kitten mom cat in and then get her done and then keep them both , offer it food, or its kitten, put kitten in a cat box inside ur house, with food next to box or milk, and leave door open so mother cat can walk in the shut the door.

sure u can think of ways of catchign the mommy cat.

    hope u sort it!!
