we found 2 stray kittens under our house. we've seen a larger cat wandering around a few times but never with the kittens. after not seeing the cat for the past 4 hours we put out a bowl of water. is there anything else we should do? will the mom come back and be mad if she sees us?

  1. Take them to an animal shelter, that is their best bet for survival.

  2. You should get all the cats picked up by an animal shelter so they can get them neutered and sent to a home. Or take them on yourself if you're willing AND able i.e. have the money to get mother and kittens neutered, when old enough, flea and worm treatment and vaccinations etc.

  3. MAYBE TRY AND CATCH THE MOM

    AND BABiES AND TAKE SOMEWHERE

THAT SOMEONE WiLL TAKE CARE OF

THEM AND GiVE THE BABiES A CHANCE

    TO BE iNDOOR ANiMALS.

  4. Take them to the humane shelter.  They'll care for them, spay or neuter them later, and find good homes for them.  If you just leave them be and they survive, you'll have 20 stray kittens in a few months...

  5. Depending on how old the kittens are, they wouldn't be seen with the mom outside of her "nest" for a while.  Usually around 6-8 weeks, when they have more motor control and their eyes are open.  They most likely won't drink water straight from the bowl yet if they're still nursing.

You can purchase a needleless syringe and pick up some kitten weaning formula at any pet store (some grocery stores have them too) and try that to keep them from getting hungry.  I think the kindest thing to do would be to get them healthy and adopt them out to loving homes so they don't wind up as strays themselves!  This will also help slow the cycle of unwanted, uncared for kittens being brough into the world.  A humane trap can be set for the momma cat so she can be taken to a rescue facility and maybe get a new, loving home herself!  Good luck, I've raised alot of kittens and it's a bucket of fun! ~Michelle

  6. How old do you think the kittens are?  Eyes open, walking around?  If so, catch them and take them to your vet to be checked, vaccinated, de-wormed, and then bring them into the house until you can adopt them out.  Spay/neuter as soon as vet will take them (my boys have been neutered at 8 weeks, girls spayed at 12 weeks).  Or, take them to the humane society or no kill shelter to have them do the same thing.

Do not ignore them!  Cats can mate by 6 months of age, and just add to the stray and feral colonies around our homes.

  7. yes what you should do is take the mother and the kittens to the humane shelter so they can find a good home and safe

  8. If the mother cat smells your scent on the kittens, or sees you hovering near them, she may want to attack you, or she may abandon the kittens.  She will probably not get near the kittens while you are nearby, so try to watch from inside the house.

Yes, leave a bowl of water and some food nearby (just inside the entrance to this underground area, but at least several feet away from the kittens).  They are too young to eat or drink this, but it may nourish the mother when she returns, and that will improve the milk she feeds the kittens.

If she doesn't return in a day or two, then call the Humane Society, SPCA, or local Animal Control so they can rescue the kittens.  Abandoned kittens require around-the-clock care for the first few weeks.

  9. The kittens need to be given to a shelter or taken to a vet.  If they are young, they may not be able to process solid food and therefore need to be bottle fed.  If they have a mother, and you havent seen her in some time, she is not going to come back for them.  No matter what, they need to be in a protected area, because lots of animals would love to eat them.
